spotlight on: just love pie

tumblr_kul5zq3sss1qzxpwao1_1280

The scene above might be in my top 10 Marshall moments from How I Met Your Mother because not only do I love charts, but I also really love pies. I don’t know why I ever bother telling people that I love pies because I’m pretty sure we all love pies so that’s just a given. Right?

I can’t imagine what you don’t love about a delicious baked pastry with fruit and things in the middle that you are encouraged to eat with a side of ice cream.

This whole preamble was to get you excited for the fact that Waterloo has a new pie cafe! Spoiler alert, a pie cafe is deliciously amazing.

confirmation of life + #onrepeat november

Contrary to my radio silence on this blog since the beginning of the month I’m still here! November has been a crazy busy month – it’s been a lot of head down work on group projects and last week was my Model G20 Conference. There’s only 2-ish weeks left in this term and I still have 3 papers and a presentation left – how?!? Also I’ve yet to find a co-op job for next term and I can’t say that the looming uncertainty is helping keep my nerves at bay at all.

But I’m having interviews and there are other exciting things happening in my life so I’m not just moping on my couch all the time. If you do want to mope on your couch, or go for a nice fall walk (not to spring awkward weather talk on y’all but it’s beautiful today!) I’ve put together another #onrepeat playlist that critics have described as ‘eclectic’ and ‘only half-heartedly sorted’. It’s much longer than my playlists usually are because I’ve been building it up for a few weeks now but I hope you enjoy it!

spotlight on: balzac’s coffee (kitchener)

Supposedly there is to be a Waterloo location of Balzac’s soon but that mythical location has not opened yet (to my knowledge) and I am very sad that I still have to go all the way to Kitchener for dope coffee. Honestly, it’s worth the trek, but we really need to be bringing more of these cute coffee shops to Waterloo.

essential app roundup: fall 2016

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of my app posts and in that time I’ve accumulated more apps that I use on a pretty regular basis that I think would be super handy for people (students particularly!) . This collection has everything from more calendar widgets to fun tools for social media!

smashed cucumber salad

This is a pretty summery dish but screw it, there was a cucumber in our fridge that needed to be used before it started getting gross. Smashed cucumber salad is one of my favourite ways to eat cukes, other than chilled and slightly salted (for when I’m really lazy) after I do a workout. I follow basically this recipe that I found here.

spotlight on: waterloo public library (john m. harper branch)

I love finding new places to study in Kitchener-Waterloo because sometimes I just really need to get away from my bed so I can focus. As I write this I’m taking a break (one of many from today) from writing my papers. I don’t really deserve a break but I’m taking one anyways.

As a result of giving Mike really shitty directions the other day, we ended up north of campus in Siberia – which is to say in the Laurelwood neighbourhood of Waterloo. Unfamiliar name? That’s because there’s basically nothing out here and only one bus route actually services this road. But we passed by this really nice building that caught my eye. Turns out it’s one of the 3 branches of the Waterloo Public Library all tucked away in a corner where most university students would never venture.

what’s in my bag |october 11th 2016

I think companies love me because I’m basically their ideal consumer. Some disposable income and limited self-control when it comes to pretty packaging. I’m also still trying to figure out if this is going to be a regular kind of post that needs to be named so “thing talk” is just temporary unless I actually can’t think of anything new. In which case, I put a lot of effort into this naming and you can go ahead and endorse my creativity on LinkedIn.

apartment tour 2016

Living with strangers seems to be some kind of necessary university experience I’ve subjected myself to 3 times already. Some of those experiences have been awesome and those strangers became my friends (s/o to you 409 suities) but other experiences were less so. Needless to say, I was pretty excited to move into a place with my best friend (and her cat), especially when that place is a 2-bedroom and we don’t even have to put up with other people! And also other people don’t have to put up with us – it’s a great arrangement.

#onrepeat 10/3/16

I generally like matching my music to the weather but it’s been so up and down in the last couple weeks that my playlists feel even more scattered than they normally do. I also switched from my Spotify Premium account to a Google Play Music account (just another way for Google to own my life) so it’s been a fun experience learning how the two services differ.

pretty handy sites

The Internet has some pretty cool tools to help you do an assortment of tasks (sometimes weirdly specific). Here is a collection of sites that I* use at least semi-regularly, hopefully you’ll find something useful that you can use in the future!
