Man, how much do I love fall? Crunchy leaves, crisp cold air, and the layers on top of layers. Really, I’m just excited to start wearing the entire other 2/3 of my closet again. I feel like I’m pretty basic too – but swap out pumpkin spice lattes for london fogs (which I’ve figured out how to make at work so I’ve been having two a day).
Anyways, I have some things that I’ve already been wearing non-stop that I’m going to boldly proclaim as my fall faves, and I also want to add some key things to my fall wardrobe that I don’t have yet.
– Blanket Scarves / Ponchos –
I’m lazy. And I run cold. So obviously the solution is to wear a blanket around all the time. The trick is choose a scarf that doesn’t make you look like a total slob.
I own two right now, and the goal is to add a cute black/grey/white one because I need to match all the other black/grey/white stuff in my closet, like either this grid patterned one from Zara, or this plaid one also from Zara.
– Pointed Boots –
Over the last two years I’ve noticed my shoe collection getting more and more pointed – something I really didn’t think I’d be doing three years ago. I think this has a lot to do with the fact that I used to associate pointy toes with those god awful patent leather kitten heels boots from the 1990’s. Anyways, I have one really gorgeous pair of maroon pointed boots that I’ve been wearing around all the time, and I’m on the hunt for a pair of pointed black Chelsea boots.
– Turtlenecks –
Turtlenecks are my one and only love these days. Okay that’s not true because I also love the colour black and pointed shoes with a passion and I refuse to choose one absolute real favourite, but turtlenecks are up there. This is yet another thing that I hated, even like 4 years ago but now I think they’re super cute and modern and stylish and all those good words. Also it’s cold so I layer up everywhere, including my neck. I’m just that much of a wimp. The two outfits below just have a mock turtleneck but I’m in love with those too.
– Neutral Jacket –
I am absolutely guilty of continuing to buy jackets that are cute but not that warm which really screws me over because y’know, this is Canada and I don’t survive -35°C weather by looking cute. as unfortunate as that fact is. So I kind of went into fall thinking ‘okay I’ll just keep an eye out for a jacket that’s a neutral tone and not black and will be wool and warm’ but didn’t really realize how much I’ve been focusing on this whole jacket thing until I went shopping downtown and spent about 4 hours looking at jackets. The not black thing is really what’s tripping me up because I’m so used to my closet just being devoid of colour but I’m really starting to warm up to the idea of a camel jacket or a grey jacket (which, let’s be real, is much more my style than camel).
I’ve looked at a couple and I’m really digging the cocoon shape of this grey one from Smoke + Ash, but the additional fold made me look like a box (thanks Jill) but this other one from Forever 21 looks nice but isn’t quite the material I would like to invest in. If you guys have any suggestions on where to look for a jacket that’s actually warm and around $300, please let me know!
